Painting is my passion, I paint what I see and see beauty in everything around us.
After 40 years of inactivity, I started to paint again- as they say it’s never too late to pick up the brushes. I was born in a village near Whitby subsequently moving to Teesside many of my paintings are influenced by this heritage.
Before retirement, I worked as a Consulting Engineer and was always committed to detail, precision, and clarity. These traits may not seem ideal for pursuing my artistic passion in water colours, but I soon discovered they actually proved to be an advantage rather than a hindrance.
What has always fascinated me has been light shadows and reflections – when I can combine all 3 – I’m happy!
I believe in showing slices of life. I paint in watercolors to be able to show the ‘happy little accidents’ that comes with the territory of using watercolours.

’” At least 45,500 years ago, a human hand had painted the pigs in ochre, making them the oldest known examples of figurative art by at least several thousand years—and, by some standards, the oldest artwork in the world”
The medium of watercolour has been particularly associated with England for several hundred years. However, its origins lie further back in the history of European painting. Pigments, consisting of earths or vegetable fibres ground to powder and bound with gum or egg, were in use in the Middle Ages.
